The Magic
The long dark of the winter approaches, and with it, the opportunity to turn within. To take the experiences we had during the growing season, and reflect upon them, learn from them, use them to perform the inner working that allows us to awaken in the spring with new wisdom, insight, and self-realization.
Mystic Fire is a dream created by the spiritual team that has been crafting rituals for Fertile Ground Gathering since 2015; it is an intensive retreat designed to help each of us create the tools we will carry with with us through the darkness, to light the way as we prepare for rebirth.
Journey
Mystic Fire retreat is a three-day journey of intensive, personal work, performed in sacred space alongside others who are taking a similar journey. During your time with us you will experience ritual, you will learn from one of our Mentors, and you will have the chance to understand what the deepest parts of your soul need you to know so that you can begin a time of important inner work.
You will experience all of this while surrounded by the beauty of hundreds of acres of wilderness nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge: mountains that are so ancient, they carry wisdom from a time before even animals walked the surface of the earth and swam the oceans.
Harvest
We hold Mystic Fire at the end of Harvest time, because once the plenty of summer is gathered and stored away, it is time to prepare for the cold times, the long dark of winter. It is a time when we prepare ourselves to do the inner work, the shadow work, the work that will carry our souls through the cold times, as the food of the harvest carries our bodies forward.
Paths
In a spiritual sense, each of us is walking through the same forest, but because each of us has a different starting point and a different destination we seek, the pathways that each of us walk may be very different. While you are in the sacred space of Mystic Fire, you will walk one Path accompanied by others whose journey will be similar, in the company and guidance of one of our experienced Mentors. Over the course of your three days on the Path, your Mentor will facilitate your journey toward a goal common to all of those who walk beside you on the same Path. During meals, we encourage those who are walking a similar Path to share space together and to discuss their shared journey, as a way of deepening their connections with one another and with the Work.
Rituals
Paths sometimes cross, and so it is at Mystic Fire; we will come together at mealtimes, and in three rituals over the course of the retreat:

The Meeting Ritual, where we will define the sacred space for the retreat, and set down the concerns of the everyday world that we have left behind,

The Mystic Fire itself, where those of each Path will contribute to the whole, creating a ritual experience that transcends the teachings of any one Path, and,

The Parting Ritual, where we will all share space one last time and honor the ways we have grown and changed, as we make ourselves ready to step back into the world.
